Cliffie Stone Family Photos
In 1992, Cliffie and I visited Sedona, AZ. Since we were promoting our book, “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Songwriting…,” we contacted Northern Arizona’s top award-winning radio station, am 780-KAZM (located in Sedona). A date and time was set. Cliffie was interviewed by Bob McCallister, who did a thorough job of covering all the important aspects of our book. After the interview, Cliffie met KAZM’s founder, Joe Tabback (see above photo). Cliffie and Joe hit it off immediately! He told Joe that his career began in radio as a musician and deejay. Joe told Cliffie that he and his wife, Terry, put AM-780 KAZM on the air in Sedona in 1974. Since Joe was Chairman of the Arizona Broadcaster’s Association’s Board of Directors in 1978, he and Cliffie had a lengthy conversation about the broadcasting industry. In 2000, Joe Tabback was inducted into the Arizona Broadcaster Association’s Hall of Fame. He was a beloved broadcaster who truly cared about his community! His passing was a tremendous loss for his family as well as the entire Verde Valley community. Tom Tabback, Joe and Terry’s son, is now the President and General Manager of am 780 KAZM radio. He has an extensive background in radio, TV and films and he brings a creative energy and vision to KAZM. Tom is also a singer/musician who performs at various venues in Arizona with his band, “Tom Tayback and the Daddy’os.” But the story doesn’t end here. Tom’s son, Mike, was once a semi-pro baseball player in Los Angeles; he left the team to join the U.S. Marine Corps in 1996. In 2011, Mike decided to follow in the footsteps of his dad and grandfather, Joe, and he joined the family radio business. He hosts a number of shows; two of them are sports-related - “Sports Talk” and “The Pit Tour,” which is right up his alley because of his days as a semi-pro baseball player. Mike and his father, Tom, have a popular morning show called “The Duo.” Joe Tabback would be so proud!
